what about a pointed wooden top?

That occurred to me, too. But then, the Petticoat Junction water tower was also topless.

good point. but I think it would look better, plus with what you said about wooden sheathing.

If they're going to sheath the tank, they might as well build it out to a cylindrical tank. I've seen some towers with hexagonal or octagonal tanks, but only when they were trying to camouflage the tank. Clearly, a water tower should go there, so it should look like a water tower. The eight segments could be completely made and finished in the shop, and put on the tank while the park is closed. Next day, Fantasyland station would have an all-new water tower.

But then, the Petticoat Junction water tower also had a few cute girls swimming/bathing inside the tank and waving at you as you went by, too... As they pushed the bounds of TV decency of the 1960's just as far as they possibly could.

Somehow, I don't think Ivory Soap or suntan lotion would be a very good water treatment for the insides of a boiler, but they didn't worry about little details like that back then. In reality it probably has a flat or slight cone-shaped top to keep the critters out, you just can't see it from the ground.

Yeah, I'm sure plenty of good Americans turned the show off, and switched on more wholesome programming showing the killing of Vietnamese women and children.

My Petticoat Junction point was to suggest a similar triad of Disney character girls peeking over the open tank top. It would be cute, even to those that are too young to get the reference.

Just went to the Magic Kingdom yesterday and came back with a bunch of pictures of the train and especially the new station. Until I get the photos from my camera dumped onto my computer, a simple cell phone snap of #1 stopped at Fantasyland will have to do. :D

#1 and #3 were both on the line yesterday... first time in many years I've been I haven't seen Roy out!

Nice photo, mattsylvanian. Looking forward to seeing more of what you have. And I am really looking forward to seeing it in person, too. :)

Beautiful shot, I rotated it just a tad to the right and it's my favorite shot of this revamped location so far.
