Don't remember if this was posted here before or not, but since our first ride weekend of the year is upon us at the New Hope Valley Railway, I thought I'd share this little gem that happened last year:

car hits train

Holy moly! It's "refreshing" to know that I share the road with these people.

Thanks for posting the video Steve. Was anyone injured? What was the driver's explanation for not seeing a huge, slowly moving object in broad daylight? I'm assuming that the driver had a heart attack or something serious like that.

Odd. The driver was clearly following the bends in the road, yet did not appear to even slow down before the collision.

I'm not sure what the final cause was determind to be. I'll ask.

There were no injuries. I understand the railroad's insurance agent closed his file immediately upon seeing the video. Liability doesn't get much clearer than that!

Either he was texting or on the phone. He didn't even make an attempt to stop what so ever. He's lucky that the train was slow and wasn't something like a 90 MPH Pacific Surfliner.

I'd love to hear the 'why' that happened. Other than a major medical issue....I can't think of one!

Could've been a brake problem. In a panic, one can forget about the emergency(parking) brake.

I'm all for the "crackberry" theory. I was broadsided at a four way stop by somebody who was so ingrossed in texting that the rolled through a stop going up a hill and hit me just ahead of the rear wheel. His insurance company paid up no questions asked.

I wouldn't say he was clearly following the bends in the road. The car was 80% into the other lane through one bend. Too distracted by all the pretty lights and bells???

Apparently there's no "official" reason for the accident. Unofficially, the guy apparently mixed up his meds and was totally out of it.
