Does a cartoon railroad drawn by Disney animators count as a "Disney Railroad?"

Anyway, an oldie but definitely a goody. I was surprised in reading the credits that Ward Kimball wasn't involved at all.

Disney took some artistic license in making the cartoon since the accident took place in Mississippi where you have a tough time find the mountains shown. But I have the same problem with the dam Harrison Ford jumps off of in the Fugitive, hard to find anything like that in Illinois. I'm not sure Disney can lay claim to the I.C. :?

Some?

Um, Jazz?

It's a CARTOON!!

You're really becoming quite the rivet counter! I'm surprised you didn't mention that Casey's engine was really a 4-6-0 and not a 4-4-0, and that he didn't fire the engine all by himself, either.

I figure the one statement pretty well covered it. Since there were that many changes in the story Disney can claim Casey but not the I.C.

Among other things, this short brings new meaning to "riding the rods." Side rods, that is.

All kidding aside, I've always enjoyed that one. We can forgive them the artistic license. I've seen MUCH worse in both animation and live action. Anybody remember the movie "Terror Train?"

True the engine that Casey went out with was a 4-6-0 but his record setting loco that got hum moved up to that line was a 2-4-4T, and that locomotive is still around.

Hmmm...Never heard that before. In all the histories of Casey that I've read, there was never any mention of him setting any records, and certainly not in a 2-4-4T. The only photo taken of Casey in a locomotive shows him in the engineer's seat of his prized 2-8-0.

During the chicago world fair he drove commuter trains. Apparently he set a record one day in his 2-4-4T #201, that got him promoted. IC 201 is the only steam loco that remains today that he engineered.

Well, Googling various phrases does show that there is in fact a little IC 2-4-4T that was apparently built as a commuter and did haul passengers to the 1893 Columbian exposition, but there does seem to be at least some doubt as to the veracity of the story.

While it is apparently at the Illinois Railway Museum, it's not on their roster, and is allegedly stored outside--not quite fitting for a locomotive with its suggested provenance. I can't really find any authoritative information that the engine was, in fact, run by Casey (although it seems probable that he ran it). Most of what I'm finding are photo captions that go along the lines of,"The 201 is reputed to have been run by Casey Jones." Personally, I'd like something a little stronger than that.

I'm not sure what record it may have set, except perhaps a "personal best" (the engine is clearly no speed demon) or perhaps number of passengers hauled in a day or something like that.

Still, I do find it a little tough to swallow that in 1900, someone would remember the exact engine Casey Jones had run seven years prior to his death. Again--not saying he didn't run it. It's just the skeptic in me wanting more info.
