Im not sure where the proof is that he drove it but someone found something. Thankfully 201 will be moved inside by this winter and we have the original diamond stack that was on it during the chicago railroad fair, but being that the steam department is all about having the locos look like they did when they first rolled out of the loco builders, the stack is safely stored in one of the steam shops box cars.

It's a nice looking engine (at least w/o that silly diamond stack). I'm with the boys in the shop--restore her back to the way she looked when she rolled out of Rogers!

Dig up the April 2000 issue of TRAINS magazine. Almost the entire issue was devoted to one John Luther Jones, the man and the myth. He was well liked, but was not the best runner on the division. He was known for making up lost time, but was also known for bending the rules. The latter resulted in a impressive accumulation of "brownies" and suspensions.

Being one of the shop boys I totally agree. I am also looking for grants to restore one of the steam locos and 201 was one of the possibilities. The only major problem is the boiler. We are not sure if it needs a new one or not. If so thats the locos main operational obstacle to fix.
