I was fortunate enough to be part of a tour of Imgineering recently and while visiting their photo and drawing archieves, saw a computer scan of a little 2-4-2 locomotive that I was told was for Tokyo Disney. I know the engines at the park are 2-4-0's, so I assume this was a concept drawing.
The engine had great proportions and I would love to get a copy of the drawing. Does anyoen have any friends in Imagineering that might have access to a copy? The engine had a tender, no saddle tank, so I know it was not a Fort Wilderness engine, but it had similar proportions.
Any help would be appreciated.

Bill,

I doubt that any Imagineer would be able to give anyone access to any drawings. Disney has never released drawings of the five Disneland locomotives--and some of those engines have been around for over 50 years. That's a long time to keep the lid on drawings! In fact, they haven't released drawings of any Disney steam locomotive that I am aware of. All drawings out there are fan-created.

If some concept art was released, along with some dimensions, like driver diameter, perhaps a reasonable facsimile could be created.

What i wanted was just a color artist rendering. Not any real blueprints as I suspect this engine never made it to production.
I may have a lead.
Thanks
Bill

I think I saw some color renderings of the Tokyo locos in the Imagineering book, out some years ago--but you can still find it at the chain bookstores in softcover in the movie-making books area.

The other possibility is to seek out the authors of the Disney books, like Jeff Kurti. I don't think that any Imagineer would want to risk their job by handing out artwork to fans/modelers, but again, it won't hurt to ask, but don't seem too eager, and be polite and respectful (not that I would think you wouldn't--just as a general note)

You might consider going to the Disneyana conventions and asking around. I always say that you're only two people from anyone you wish to meet.

I'd like to see that, too!
