With the opening of Disney California Adventure's Red Car line, a series of souvenir merchandise has begun to show up, including this adult-sized conductor hat. Although it could do without the Mickey Ears, it does sport a nice represention of a metal Red Car Conductor badge. I wondered if this is this the first time Disney has offered a hat sporting a a representation of a conductor badge?

It is indeed, to my knowledge.

Would be a neat hat w/o the ears. :?

Yes, Steve, I agree completely. Better to have the ears on a kid's version of the hat, and leave them off the adult one.

I think the ears make it a true Disney item! If you want a conductors hat without the ears, theres plenty on ebay!

Looking at the uniforms, it seems they are sticking with the standard Disney Conductor jacket, vest and pants, but the hat appears to be more like the one worn by the horsecar and omnibus operators rather than the Disney RR conductor hat. Note the wicker is on the lower hat band rather than the top.

I disagree.

That's a pillbox with ears, and a right-between-the-eyes target.

I think that Varnish Car was comparing the Red Car operators' hats to the one on the head of the Fire Engine driver. I don't think that he was making a direct comparison of any of the Cast Member hats to the souvenir Red Car one for sale to guests.

Right- the Red Car Conductor Hats the cast members wear seem to be the style the Horsecar Conductors wear and not the Disneyland RR Conductor "Double-top" Style.
