Hi Folks,

John Bailey is once again planning the WDW Un-Meeting for 2011. There will be a welcome dinner at Wolfgang Puck's Thursday evening. The Steam Tour will be Friday morning followed by a presentation by Michael Broggie. Saturday morning is a limited sign-up backstage tour at the Magic Kingdom. Sunday morning breakfast at the Trails End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness will be followed by tours of the old FTW RR rail line along with history discussions by Vern Conner, Dave Martin, Johnny Chaffin, and myself.

I have created a FTW RR shirt for this year's meeting. The drumhead is based on a photo I took of the genuine article...your's truly is modeling it below  ..... if you are interested in having a shirt for the meeting, email me at dkleaphart@yahoo.com or leave me message here on the forum. I can then give you the details....

I hope you can attend this year's meeting, especially since it coincides with the 40th WDW birthday on October 1st!!! :!:

David

My wife and I will be attending the Un-meeting for the first time this year. We had already planned on being in WDW for the Columbus Day weekend so we changed our flights and were luckey to get DVC rooms for the prior weekend and week.

Do we need to register for the Un-meeting? I've emailed John but have not heard back. I noticed that the Marceline Tour was fully booked before we got the agenda email. Consequently we are concerned about getting locked out of other Un-meeting events.

We are really enjoying our Carolwood Society membership and had a great visit to the barn recently. Our visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUkSkAghsXY

I enjoy video production and wondered if it was allowable to film Michael's presentation, tours, etc?

Since we are newbies to the event we would greatly appreciate any additional details.

Thanks!

Tom C

I have also emailed registration and heard nothing as of yet.

I also found it odd that one event is completely booked before the announcement was e-mailed out (or posted here and the CPHS web site), unless possibly there were multiple announcements and some of us received the late announcement.

Logistics are still somewhat challenging to figure out.

I recall there was bus service from the Wilderness Lodge early enough to get to the MK for the steam train tour. However, the year I stayed at that Music Hotel, there was no early transportation and I had to drive in and take a monorail. Barely made it in time. Can anyone who frequents WDW offer any suggestions on this topic?

If after the morning steam train tour the next event is at Disney University as in previous years, non-employees have a rather long trek to make to get from one place to another and it does require a car. You have to leave the MK and get back to your hotel or the parking lot, then drive to DU. Last time I did that process, it took a bit more than an hour. (Of course the afternoon program might be somewhere else.)

Next up would be a reversal of that trek if the evening event is back in the MK.

Since the Saturday morning event in the MK is booked and the evening event is in Epcot, that will cost me a full day's admission price for only the evening, thus I will go over to BGT, SWF or Universal on Saturday since I can get in free to those parks. And BGT has steam trains too!!!

Fortunately the Sunday FtW event has no park admissions attached to it, so I can easily do that one.

If all goes well (no home appliance failures, no work schedule surprises, no automobile hiccups, etc), I should be making the trip. Hopefully Wilderness Lodge has some vacancies at good prices around that time.

Hope to see everyone there!

Michael, not to complicate things, but the 7-18-11 Unmeeting schedule that I received says:

"2:00-4:00 PM Disney Railroad History Presentation (presenter/location to be announced) (Presentation will most likely be held at the All Star Resorts Cast Services Building-same as last year)"

Hope to see you this year!

Thank you for the update. I did not see that on the Carolwood site or on the previous posting on this forum. Perhaps its just late at night. :^)

I missed the last few years meetings due to work schedule. I hate Halloween operating schedules!!

Should I presume that this building is somewhere near the music/movie/whatever-else-they-are-called resorts? If I remember correctly that resort is on a bus route so it should not be too much trouble.

Its a challenge to figure out the locations from here in VA since my visits down there are infrequent.

Thanks again

Hi Folks,

An update for you on the Un-Meeting.

On Saturday afternoon, we are planning a real Happy Birthday party for WDW and the railroads. A big treat is unfolding as Russell will be setting up and operating his Little Fort Wilderness Railroad. Do visit http://www.littlefwrr.com to see what he has done! I'll have my FTW RR locomotive on a roller static display for folks to operate, including sound effects! Some are bringing collectibles on the railroads for display, and we will have a WDW Happy Birthday cake!!

If you are planning to come or in the vicinty, do drop by the Wilderness Lodge Carolwood Pacific Room after lunch!

:D
Take care,
David
