No, I believe they're going to operate on rails. But they will be battery powered.

Yep, actual rails. They've got walls up now so they can dig up the ground to install them.

Why dont they just install a live overhead wire. Its not like theyre installing a 3rd rail that anybody can just touch :?

A wire would still be too low for the parade, balloons, and mischievous fools.

I'm kinda late to the show....but......

During my days at Carowinds park in NC as an engineer at times we had to stand in as the trolley conductor. The Trolley was built by park owner Pat Hall's mechanical staff and was a one truck open sided Brill like unit. It was only about 18 feet long total. It ran on 3 foot gauge track embedded in the streets of Plantation Sq but only ran about 200 yards. We ran back and forth on this track with a small shed at one end for storage. It was not for a number of years later that I realized that the trolley was just the guts from a fork lift! I went to work in a warehouse and had to use a fork lift.....and then found the same controls, electricals and batteries that out trolley had! On a return visit to the park I rode the trolly looking inside the operator area and could now see how it was the guts of a fork lift.....flanged wheels added to one end and another axle added for the other end. It worked pretty well and who ever thought it up and did the engineering did an pretty decent job. The battery would last a whole day when charged overnight.

The Disney units should have no issues with battery and traction motors as I am sure the budget is more than that of our Brill!

Red Car in action! Looks like the lawyers got involved unfortunately with the vehicle envelope. Doesn't look too bad though.

Not sure what you mean, Sam. Are you talking about the side skirting?

It doesn't look bad. Very exciting to see things actually moving. I haven't been this excited about something Disney is doing in a long time.

If only they would put a steam train in DCA...
