Yeah, that's just highly-polished brass in the bright California sun.

the windows are red. if you look closely at the photo with the white whistle you can see the rear window slid behind the forward window with red trim around it. there are excellent photos of Gurley in Broggie's book, which I used to paint mine. Guards Red. You know what I mean.

Also the coupler I used on the front of the engine is an "O" scale Lionel coupler. It is the perfect scale for narrow gauge looks. The kadee and LGB are way too big.

Great tip on the coupler. I'll pick one up next time I'm at the train store

The picture with the white whistle was taken at Fullerton Railroad Days when the whistle was operated by compressed air. My guess: it is not Gurley's regular whistle.

I don't know why they would swap the whistles out for an event. Plus, it sounded just like the Gurley's whistle (and looks like it too.). As Steve said, its just highly polished brass in the bright sun.

BTW, Robert Dustin has a new e-mail address... RDUSTIN@CHARTER.NET

his work address is PO BOX 77 thompson, CT 06277

he still does the etched metal builder and number plates.

give him a jingle and ask for Marsh, Gurley, BTMRR and MAPO plates if still interested.

The heaviest foam that Plastruct sells is 4#. I tried to ask if anyone there knew if it could be turned on a lathe. I got a lot of blank stares (yes, I could see them throught the phone) but I ordered it anyway. We'll see how it works.

The 4# foam arrived today. It is in no way suitable for finish work. It is crumbly and soft. I will go back to the tried and true pine for sand and smoke domes.

MAPO is the builder of the Fort Wilderness Rail Road engines. Specifically I had Robert produce engine #4 to accent the live steam accucraft model representing Michael Campbell's enigine.

The pine'll work- although I'd like to hear more about Sam's 10# foam.

Also, from your photo of the scale drawing and stock Princess, I'm a bit surprised the domes and stack aren't usable.
