I use a program called Train Sim Modeler which unfortunately only models for MSTS (although locos can be converted to Trainz through importing to 3D Canvas.)

That's a nice looking engine! Good job do far! How many polys is your engine?

The main drawing I use isn't really the plans for it, but a very accurate drawing made by Preston Nirattisai. He made several drawings for each engine on the DLRR. And for engines 3, 4, and 5, what they looked liked before they were bought by the Disney Company when they were running on whatever plantation they were from.
Although, I do use some of the original plans for the cab, and the tender. I got those courtesy of Steve DeGaetano.

Actually, Sam Towler did the "as-built" drawing of No. 4, and I modified Preston's drawing of the Kimball to get the as-built for that engine (and had it colorized by an aquaintance who knew what the colors and striping should be).

That particular model - Front = 12,935 polys and Tender = 5794, which I admit is very extreme for MSTS, but many computers now can handle that sort of size 'a model.

I am assuming that these drawings aren't available to the G.P? And what about locos 1 + 2?

Quick update. Added the eagle on top of the sand dome. And textured the bell and bell stand finally.

I thought Preston drew the as-built of #4 and Sam only colored it..
Well, I'd say you did a good job with the "as-built for #5 Steve.
I wish I knew all this information so I can for once give the right credit to you, and others haha.

As for as-built No. 4: Nope, not by Preston--which is why Sam posted the colored and non-colored versions of as-built No. 4 in the Drawings Forum! I also gave him credit in the MiceAge article where they first appeared.

You would not have known I did the Kimball as-built because I didn't advertise that in the book. But I did give credit to Jon Davis, who colorized it.

So the info is out there, you just have to remember where you saw it!

Ben, in the book you should be receiving soon, there are side-view drawings of engines 1 - 4. These were based on Disney painting diagrams, so they aren't really true blueprints. Preston Nirattisai, the (then) civil engineer who did the drawings under my supervision, used a CAD program. We had some known dimensions, and we used those where we could. The rest of the drawings were made using detailed photos of each engine, and keeping all details in proportion. They are not 100% accurate, but they are very close--so close that people in Imagineering refer to them often, and have used them to create some of their pins.

As for engine No. 5, the Ward Kimball, we did have access to some of the blueprints, which led to more-accurate wheels and other details. However, we used the drawings of No. 3, basically from the running boards down, as the basis of the Kimball, since they're the exact same class of engine, with the same dimensions. We changed the details accordingly to match.

I do have several dozen drawings of the Fred Gurley, including the cab, frame, tender, and rear truck. These are being used by N.Parrot for his model. I've sent copies to Preston, so he will be preparing ultra-accurate drawings of this engine if and when we ever get around to doing a second edition of Welcome Aboard the DRR.

That is just what I wanted to hear! I suspect that once the book arrives I will have a go at modelling #1 and #2 as they (from the other side of the pond) appeal to me the most! I'm assuming that there are plans for the 'Ward Kimball' in the 'From Plantation to Theme Park' book?

I have had a look through the drawings section, but aside from coaches (which I was going to model once I had access to the side view of the locomotive) there were no full on side drawings which I need to model. Hence ordering of the WADRR book

Off topic - Are any WDWRR/EDRR locomotive plans available?

N.Parrott, I believe there is a MSTS exporter pack for Gmax (along the same lines as the Trainz exporter pack) for exporting in that format.

Yes, Ben, the Kimball drawings are in the Ward Kimball book. These include front and rear drawings as well.
