Post subject: New Bright and other G scale battery operated trains
PostPosted: Thu Feb 08, 2007 2:06 pm
Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with New bright and Scientific Toys battery trains. I've got my own railroad that has a roster of 8 New brights and 2 Scientific engines one of them is a more"Disneyfied" Walter.
My rolling stock roster are all of the 4 WDW Excursions sets and 4 frieght sets.
I bet Katz Duncan is familiar with these since he kitbashed a 2-6-0 mogul Scientific.

It would be a pleasure if I could see some of your model locomotives and rolling stock.

Actually, I also have a 1986 New Bright 2-6-2 I'm trying to convert to a 4-6-2. As a mega BIONICLE fan, I imagined this engine as the first engine to land on Mata-Nui: Mata-Nui Municipal Railway (MNMR) #5442, first ran in 1922.

What's the name of the engine? My Railroad is composed of 10 engines.
8 New Bright and 2 Scientific Toys engines. And there is one station (also from New Bright). Of course, a water tower, three public crossings, a roundhouse(storage facility where the trains are all stored) there are two switch out tracks to the roundhouse(one is right in back of the station just like Toon Town Station of WDW ,except this is a left turn out insted of a right turn out) and the other one is located just before the back stretch of the layout. There are 8 sets of rolling stock. The four WDW excursion sets
Red 100 series coach made by New Bright 1988,Green 200 series coaches by Scientific Toys,Yellow 300 series coach by New Bright (kitbashed),Blue 400 series coaches by Scientific Toys (kitbashed).
There are three frieght sets (kitbashed to look like its hauling Spanish cider from Asturias,Spain),and a the final set is an oil tanker with a cabose.
Well, this fine railroad took 10 months to put together(June,2005-April 2006). I already had 6 of 4 engines prior to the actual putting together.

PLEASE READ! I DIDN'T WRITE ALL THIS TO BE IGNORED!

Shouting at people to read your post won't help any. In fact, it will probably turn some people away.

Um, because I believe it's illegal to be a member of an internet forum at age 13, I'm going to guess you're 14?

We're not ignoring your railroad. Since you haven't posted any pics of anything, it's, well, it's a bit dry, honestly. I'd like to see pics of what you have, too. I have a few of the battery operated trains, though for now they're all boxed up, with one exception...

Don't feel too bad, I have a few others that are in working order. I purchased this one years ago from Property Control, where WDW sends damaged merchandise to be sold on the cheap. I bought it to add rolling stock to my inventory. The engine didn't work, so I decided to take it apart: a) to see how everything was put together and how the smoke unit worked (who knew it amounted to a mini punching bag to propel air up the tube to blow smoke?); b) to see if I could find out why it didn't work; c) to repair/kitbash it to represent another WDW engine. As you can see, I have yet to get it working and put back together. It's been in pieces for about six years now. Maybe someday. Incidentally, aren't New Bright and Scientific just different names/divisions for the same company? Their products, by and large are identical and interchangeable.

Hey ODEC sounds like you have a pretty good size layout. I have a few of the battery operated G scale size trains. One is the 1988 New Bright set but I have it apart right now trying to figure out why it won't run. I think it has something to do with the infer-red remote control system. I plan to by pass it and use simple on off switches for the engine.

On another note give people some time on here to respond to what your posting. People get busy. We all want answers or comments to their post but sometimes people get side track. An example of this is that I read your posting yesterday but because I had to go to one of my classes for school I was unable to respond until today. So just give people time.
