Yeah. I'd love to do Excursion but haven't found a good base, yet. What are they based on, anyway? Trolley cars?

They are very similar to trolley cars. I have some LGB trolleys that have bench seats that could be used, but there are only 4 benches in each trolley and the excursion car needs about 12 of them. I concluded a while back that to have a whole train of these, they would need to be scratch built. I have not really settled in my mind how to form the curved side pieces, Sheet styrene is not the answer. Mayby they could be cast or 3D printed from one master. There is plenty of time, this is project #18 on my list of train projects. Here are a few of the reference photos I have taken. You can get the colors pretty close from them.

If I were going to build the excursion train in "G", I'd start with the a Bachmann Jackson Sharp bull nose roof and a flat car. There are 11 seats with faux flip over backs and 1 on each end that have fixed back for a total of 13 seats, 15 if your doing a WDW railroad car. The New Bright car (WDW) could be used but are really under sized.

I have not has much luck with getting metal to do what I want in a satisfactory manner. Sam, I seem to recall that you made a nose or a windsheild for a monorail with some type of plastic shaping technique. What did that involve?

Excellent suggestion, The Jackson Sharp could be a good starting point, but after building the Grand Canyon roof, I have all the formwork to construct a "straight" roof. The Bachmann coach is also a bit short.

That was just a piece of clear plastic that was vacuum-formed over a form, the result was a clear shell.

That could work, I could make a wood form with the desired curve. How is the plastic shaped onto the form? What type of equipment/tools do you need?

Yeah Sam, this is the first time you've mentioned vacuforming.

The real trick is to make a vacuum table (most people make it out of peg board) to suck the plastic around the form after it's been heated (how you heat it is up to you). There are several ways to make your own machine, just take a look at DIY Vacuum-form machines on YouTube; For example:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jOxhQ1lhV8&feature=related
