Hey if anyone is going to Disneyland anytime, please get pictures of the model of their opening day. It's too far for me and I want to see what the trains on the mini SF&DLRR. If anyone can get good shots of the models of the railroad's engines as well as the horse car, Casey Jr., andmaybe the mine train ride, post them here. :) Thanks.

The large model on display inside the Opera House on Main Street shows Disneyland as it appeared on opening day, 7-17-05. The Rainbow Caverns Mine Train (later expanded into the Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland in 1960) opened a year later in 1956, thus it is not shown in the model. That area where the Mine Train would later be located is a large grassy area with a few trees.

The only trains shown in the model are the DRR and Casey Jr. Circus Train.

The trains are modeled using Bachmann N scale 4-4-0s. The C.K. Holliday has a modified balloon stack. They were painted, but not lettered. Someone switched the tenders, so the CK has a green tender, and the Ripley has a red tender. The passenger cars are MDC N scale shorty coaches; the freight trains consists of a mish-mash of modern 40' N scale stock cars, no gondolas, and an SP caboose.

Interesting... :) Does the Ripley have the wrong light?

Not much modification was done to the engines that I could tell, aside from the stack on the Holliday. I bet the headlight on both engines is the regular box headlight.

What really got me was Frontierland Station. The station has zero detailing! No doors, no windlws--just the station shape! This is strange because the other builders on Main Street are very well detailed.

Oh, and there's no water tank for the trains!

I'm looking at my photos of the Disneyland model. Both 4-4-0 locomotives have box style headlights and at the time I took my pictures last May, the tenders were switched as Steve described. It's kind of hard to see clearly in one of my photos, but I think that the green tender behind the C.K. Holliday not only is the wrong one, but it's also hooked up backwards!

Somebody *please* get in that glass case and fix that model!

Maybe the Frontierland station originally didn't have doors, windows, etc. on it. Maybe they were added in later years.
Tender on backwards? That's not possible! Anyone who has the N scale Bachmann 4-4-0's(like myself) would know they couldn't have done that without completely rebuilding the car. ???

Hmmm...maybe it's not coupled together and it's just sitting there. It's kind of hard to tell in my photos. It just kind of looked backwards at first glance.
