The cab on the locomotive in the 'old' photo is not the same. This was its original KPCo. cab and after 18 years of being left in the open had reached the end of the line (pardon the pun) The new one also has significantly more headroom.

The 'cowcatcher' was simply added to give the appearance of the small street railway engines of San Francisco (Ferries & Cliff House) that it was intended to 'represent' as a display at the Sutro Museum. Not something you would find on an engine shunting about Hawaiian cane fields,

Hey Dixie fans. Do you know what today October 12, is? Why Dixiana just turned 93-years-old. Its her construction (birth) day. October 12, 1912 was when she was built according to what I have in my Dixiana poster. :;):

I noticed in some of the photos of the yard at RC that some wood cars have been aquired. Are these used for maintenance of way work or storage?

John got some stuff from the Durango auction a few years back, which included those two cars as well as another which has since been sold back to Jason Midyette in Colorado. The boxcar serves its purpose as a storage shed (sitting at the end of track in Felton at the moment), but the flat (originally an SG flat which had NG trucks rolled under it) has indeed been used in MOW service. The 40 carried a weed-spraying ATV up the hill on it not too long ago.

I don't see a date on that site, but since Phil Reader shows up in two of the pictures, they'd have to be taken sometime in 2001 or earlier. That was the year John came "on board" (pardon the pun), and Phil left for the Loop not too long after that. The "Moose Call" was still on the Heisler during that time.

One of the captions also makes mentions of Phil's miraculous repair on the 7 while the 1 was being rebuilt...had the engine set off early in the week, repaired it, and hung back on in time to be in service for the weekend trains! Note the 1's cab sitting in front of the shop.
