Here is a interesting drawing I came across. Baldwin made a steam engine called a Pokaa. The cab and domes look very similar to the FWRR locos.

That's an interesting drawing David - thanks for sharing it. :)

Hmmmm...was Chloe, formerly named Pokaa during its years before moving to the Grizzly Flats RR, the prototype Baldwin model for that little 0-4-2T? It seems strange (to me anyway) that a large manufacturing company all the way in Philadelphia would choose a Hawaiian name for one of their products. The only explanation that I can think of is that the Chloe/Pokaa was the prototype and thus the "Pokaa" internal name for it at Baldwin Locomotive Works. Was that the case?

Loco you are right. Found this right off of the Grizzly Flats RR site.

This Is the Grizzly Flats Engineshed, It has housed many Engines in its time. The first was the 1881 Emma Nevada 2-6-0 formerly named Sidney Dillon. Who operated faithfully for over half a century on a 96 mile stretch of Central Nevada Short Line. 1938 It was purchased for 400.00 restored and renamed to "emma Nevada". Emma Currently resides at the Orange Empire rail Musuem. In 1948 A Waimanalo Sugar Company 0-4-2T No. 2 Pokaa arrived from Hawaii, this little engine became the "Chloe" named after his youngest daughter "Chloe". The Chloe still remains here and is fully operational. Next Jerry Best's 'Olomana' was housed here.

Chloe was Pooka

You're right, Locoboy. Baldwin didn't assign model names to their locomotives--their engines were classified with the Baldwin "code" that included information on wheel arrangement, cylinder diameter and stroke. "Pokaa" isn't a model name--it's the name given by the railroad.

The H.K. Porter Company did, however, give its various engine types names, so when you ordered a Porter out of the catalog, you'd order by model name.

I know Olomana was built in 1883, but when was Chloe built? It says at the Orange Empire Railway Museum site it was built in 1917, and the L.G.B. model's builders plates it says 1883. I don't know the real answer, so if anyone could tell me when she was built I would high appriciate it. Thank you.

Hello All, Cool site and forum. It's my first forum that I've joined. I never thought I would find a site that combines my first 2 loves. Anything Disney and RR!! My first taste of Disney and trains took place in early '75, I was 5 years old by the way. My parents took an extended vacation in their first RV that year. We stayed at FW. As a very young child I was fascinated wth the FWRR and everything FW(not too mention anything Disney!)! It's still my favorite resort. Does anyone remember the peddler truck that delivered breakfast to the hungry campers? As the years rolled by my parents took me to FW many times. During the '80's it was a yearly thing to spend Thanksgiving at FW. As the years passed and I grew I often wondered whatever happened to that fantastic steamer at FW. After a long Hiatus I returned to rent a cabin at FW in Nov '03. It was a bittersweet return. If you listen close you can still hear the whistles of the WDWRR from FW, but I do miss the FWRR. Thus I salute all who cherish the memory of Steam at FW!

Sorry about the typo Michael! That often happens when I'm unwinding from work. I can't say this enough. It feels like I've come home finding this site. For me it doesn't get any better than discussing Disney and trains, unless I'm discussing that topic wiht new friends!!! Thank You very much!
