I have a Monorail model that I am wanting to "motorize" to use on an N Scale track, and have a limited amount of space to work with. I am trying to avoid having to cut into the model or significantly alter it. My goal is to get a gear box/motor that will fit underneath. Any ideas of where to get such a beast that is N Scale?

I'm not sure if I can help but some more detail on the model would help someone in helping you.

What is the model you are trying to retrofit? A lot can depend on how much space there is inside the model and how heavy it is.

What type of track are you assuming? Is the model designed to go on a track. Or are you panning on turning a monorail model into a train that runs on n-scale rail?

Dave: a picture of the monorail you want to power would be very helpful. And the beam or track you intend to use. I have seen pictures on line of an N scale layout where a TGV train was repainted to look like the monorails but it was still running on two rails. The TGV cars are a bit longer than needed but building the track inside a guide way made it look like a maglev train, a very satisfactory model for his tomorrow land.

Disney's N scale model can be modified to run on scale beam but it won't be easy!

Hi boB,

I remember your N-scale project from the HobbyTalk thread. Good to see the progress you're making!

A low-tech idea would be to use a cable drive, like in the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Tram.
