"The engine does have a code boiler but the fire box and back sheet have been cut for the gas motor. "

Owch.

At least it was kept looking nice.

That kid looks so happy to be sitting on a steam outline, ha ha.

The look on his face is perfect for the occasion...of sitting on a butchered steam locomotive.

Yeah, the kid does look somewhat less than enrapt. I hope that's not because he's losing the train.

As for the locomotive's power, can you think of a better use for a lawnmower engine? Would you rather it be used for a diesel locomotive; a go-cart; or(yawn) a lawnmower?

And what were they thinking, when they built that passenger car? It looks like a church on wheels...Pee-euw!

Just noticed the connecting rod between the drivers is missing. Dear god that poor thing. Also guessing they quit putting oil in the cylinders so they are probably scored to heck if the piston is still in there.

This is the train from Arto Monaco's Land of Make Believe in Upper Jay, NY. Monaco was a high-end toymaker in the 40s/50s/60s, and his park was probably among the more prominent and successful storybook parks of its day, lasting a good 20-25 years before finally closing in the late '70s. There's actually an Arto Monaco historical society in Jay that is currently working to preserve the handful of remaining buildings on the former L.O.M.B. site and transforming it into a public park; maybe they'd be interested in it. Too bad it's been butchered and tagged with a recession-unfriendly asking price.

I think such a situation would lead to a full seize-up, even before you'd get much metal-to-metal scoring.

Yea there's a link in on the page to information, and I followed it to the restoration group's efforts. I guess the current owner of the engine has no interest in donating it to the group. (or the group has no interest in being an amusement ride operator, heh.)

Cheers,
