Pictures just popped up showing some of the new work on the Rivers of America and the Mine Train that has been sitting wrecked on the remaining loop of NW track is currently missing. Hopefully it's just getting some TLC and it will return...of course at the moment I'm not going to hold my breath.

This has been discussed on other Forums. Apparently the train is gone for good.

It's too bad it's gone, but I think it's for the better. It was literally rotting to pieces, paint was peeling like crazy, right down to the green showing through from it's pre-Nature Wonderland days. To have it in such a poor, poor condition (the entire right side of the cab is gone!) is bad show. If it was aged in a still nice condition, it would have been fine to keep, I think. It would have been nice if it was given the Gullywhumper treatment, but it had been decaying too long to save.

And this is coming from the guy that obsesses about that ride. ;)

Awwwww. Yeah, I agree that it was rotting to pieces so maybe it is in a better place. Hopefully the good folks in the CPHS can manage to get some pieces and maybe auction them off to their members for charity. I'm glad that I took lots of photos of it when I did.

It's asking to much for them to bring back Cascade Falls isn't it?

Well, I'm anxious to see what the new Rivers of America will look like when I go to Disneyland soon.

I am actually really disappointed. I liked that little part of history of the train there as you went on the boat. I hope CPHS can aquire it maybe. Where can I find pictures of what it looks like without the train there? I am very sad but I guess to keep the Disney image, it is for the best.

Couldn't they just remove the old rotting pieces add put in new ones? All they have to do is go to a home improvement store and get some new lumber and sheet metal!

I agree with the CPHS restoration idea. I'd gladly volunteer hours to get it back to displayable condition. After all, the historical society was created to preserve Walt Disney's railroad history. I think preserving the Mine train falls squarely underneath that mission.

Is there room at Griffith park to re-create the Natures Wonderland ride?

There are some photos here:

That section of track looks rather bare now. I wonder what they did with that section of bent rail that stuck into the front window of the cab.
