It is my understanding that the WDWRR has never missed a day of operation. Is this true?

A few months ago, I was chatting with a cast member on the Main Street station. He said that due to the Fantasyland construction, the water line that supplies the tower in Toon Town would have to be shut off, forcing the trains to close for a while.

Did this (or, will this) happen? I understand they had to run the trains forward & back when the 'new' Frontierland station was under construction, but a steam train without water won't be going very far.

Just curious if anyone else has heard this.

I cannot speak with any authority here, but I would imagine the trains must have missed a day or two in the last 40 years. I mean, did the trains run during hurricanes?

I'd be interested in hearing the scoop.

The trains didn't run in the hurricanes because the park was closed during the hurricanes. At least during the recent ones. So does it count as missing a day of operation if the park is closed?

They don't have high-volume water supplies at Main St. for the purpose?

Well you could use a good old garden hose though it will cause major delays...

Right, that is my understanding... I believe I heard this on the Magic Behind the Steam Trains tour. To be specific, the actual wording was something along the lines of "at least one train has been in operation every day that the park has been open."

Nope.

In addition to the days when the entire park was closed for hurricanes, etc., there was a period of perhaps two weeks when the trains did not operate.

It happened when the 16-inch water line that runs under the track next to the Adventureland Crossing broke. Before it was shut off, it had dug a hole directly under the track about 20 feet across and we're not sure how deep (*I* certainly wasn't going to get close enough to look!)

It took a couple of weeks to dig out the mess, repair the pipe, fill the hole, and rebuild the track.

I tried to convince the Company to run one train in shuttle service, back & forth, but the budget wouldn't allow it, so we just shut down. I had several nice shifts standing at stations saying, "No, not today."

Whoa! Thanks for that info. What year was this? Wondering if it was after I took the tour.

So I guess it's not that big of a deal if the trains have to stop operation again... no record to uphold. Still, would be very weird to be in the park without a train steaming around.

That had to be around, oh, 2003 or 2004, I think. I was working at Frontierland attractions at the time if I recall correctly.
