And this shot shows the areas of the decal that lifted away from the model:

(Note the opaque area between the pinstripes on the top right corner of the tender.)

Are you using a decal solvent like Walthers Solvaset??? It really needs to go down before application but it can be used after the decals are dry if needed. You brush the Solvaset over the decal and with a new X-acto #11 pierce tiny holes in the decal allowing the Solvaset to get under the decal. The lifting and air under decals is called 'silvering' as it looks kinda silver. If this works it will suck the decal down, help it adhere and eliminate the air and silvering. Drop me a note if you need more info....been in the decal biz for 25+ years.

Nope, I haven't tried a decal solvent yet. Is the Walther's product similar to Testor's Decal Set? If so, I've heard that it's just diluted vinegar.

I can pick up some of the Testor's product nearby, but I think I'd have to order the Walter's product on-line.

Thanks for the advice!

I only use the Walthers Solvaset. Walthers was the first hobby decal producer back in the 1930's. If Solvaset is vinegar it works....but it doesn't smell that way to me. Any hobby shop that deals in trains should have it or get it quick.

Decal set has some distilled vinegar in it and some type of bonding agent and acetyne.

The preferred method of use is to give the decal some nice smooth surface to bond to, gloss coat etc. Dip decal for 10 seconds in warm distilled water, set on a napkin for about 30 seconds, put some decal set on the model, slide decal onto platic and blot it. Let stand for 24 hours and spray with a protectorant.

Easy peasy.

Since your model is faily old the decals probably need to soak a bit longer like the older decals when we were young that we would leave soaking until the ends curled. If you want to use a bottle of distilled vinegar, you get the same effect, just loose the added bonding. I like walthers and dispise testors decal set. Walthers tends to hide the silvering better which means it is adhereing to the plastic surface better.

My USS Enterprise is Warth of Khan issue and still looks good for being so old. The Mobius version is incredible as are the mobius Battlestar Galactica models.

Mike that model looks awesome for a Sunday relaxer. Glad you have time to do a hobby.

You can use Walthers solvaset after the fact but it is not vinegar, it is a solvent that can ruin the decals. you can dilute it with water and put it on the decal, the decal should wrinkle up a little before settling down flat.

When I sealed the 1909 accommodation train and the decals lifted, a coating of solvaset reset the decals with out needing to replace them.

Good to hear that. I'm looking forward to the 1:35 Lost in Space chariot and space pod (same scale as the Moebius Jupiter 2).

Nope, no motorization possible without extensive modification. All the valve gear is molded. Also, the gauge is something odd, so I'd have no track to run it on.

Thanks, Jazz, for the information about diluting the solvaset. I'll see about picking some up.

Is this the Tomy 1:45 kit? If so, how far from HO gauge is it?
