So my engine isn't a "steam locomotive" by definition? :(

steam en·gine Noun: 1. An engine that uses the expansion or rapid condensation of steam to generate power. 2. A steam locomotive.

Beautiful porter, Steve. What was her job pior to retirement? How many gallons is that saddle tank?

And back on topic, where are the pics of the new station coming from? My parents were there last week and the trains were still doing point to point, not full circle. Was there a preview week or did it officially open?

Off topic but...

http://www.engine17.org/history.htm

The Vulcan Iron Works, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, was hired to build this oil burning 0-4-0 tank engine for New York Shipbuilding Corporation, in Camden, New Jersey. When completed in 1941, the locomotive, with builders plate #4309 was delivered to the New York Shipbuilding yard with Navy designation U.S.N.X. 2025 as seen in its builders' photographs.

In 1948, the engine was sold to the Carbon Limestone Company and renumbered to 17 , where it probably served in and around the quarry.

First of all besides the 17 not having a tender, Disneyland's Fred Gurley and Ward Kimball also don't have tenders as well....On a side note, I had no clue the 17 was at the Carbon Limestone. Probably served along side the Cedar Point and Lake Erie's George R as well as the Lahiana Kaanapali and Pacific's Anaka and Myrtle all 3 of them 1943 HK Porter's that were originally 0-4-0Ts now 0-4-0 and 2-4-0s.

And yet, fireless steam locomotives-- which don't have a fuel bunker, water tank (no tender!) or even a firebox-- are still considered steam locomotives!!

Really? That's odd. The station has been open for a couple of months now, along with Goofy's Barnstormer and one half of Dumbo.

Yeah...I am confused, too. I thought the trains were doing grand circle during all of the construction. At least they were when I was there during the middle of it...

I was at the park on Monday the 21st. At around 5:30pm the railroad was closed due to a water leak. Seems that something happened to a major water line in the area of the CircusLand/Entrance Switch. I remember seeing a 20-25ft fan of water spraying up and across the switch. I'm thinking it was caused by something going on with the final stages of construction in that area of CircusLand.
By 6:30 they were running Trains again....at least outbound from Main Street to FrontierLand. I didn't think observe whether or not it was a point to point operation or a Grand Circle Trip.

Wow, I am looking forward to both seeing and visiting this new Station when I go back at WDW sometime. I really like the idea of expanding the Fantasyland area. When I last when to WDW in 2010 I heard no such thing about this project. I guess that was my last time I ever now saw the way how the station once looked. I now cant wait to see the new station once it is complete. Plus I like this new water tank, it looks like one you could see on a more industrual setting.

Carbon Limestone had several different locations, some used 36" gauge, others standard gauge. Don't know for sure which one, if any had any dual gauge trackage.
