That really came out nice. I have one of these sitting in the box on a shelf. Never had the courage to tackle it. (wasnt sure what to do with it after it was completed) After seeing how nice yours came out, I think you have inspired me to take a second look at it. Nice job.

Well, this thread inspired me to pull my model off the shelf and blow the dust off of it.
Since I have a complete mixed bag of Disney trains, in all different scales, I have decided to focus on growing my g scale collection. So the Tomy model will go up on eBay and be my sacrificial lamb in order to help finance more g scale trains.

The cool thing about the WRR is that it is 30" gauge, so the model is perfect for On30.

Well, I didn't win the one that Dray was selling but did manage to pick up another one just recently. The track included with the model is 16.85mm (0.6635in) gauge. H0 is 16.5mm so this is quite close. The box says the model is 1:45 scale which is slightly larger than 0 gauge. Strangely there is another piece of cardboard inside the box that says 1:46 scale.

What's with the box? My box was also in poor shape. I guess that's common with plastic model kits.

Here's a shot of the infamous fixed valve gear on the sprue:

I've have to look on-line and see what 0 scale valve gear parts are available.

I'm an idiot, I of course meant 0 'scale'.

Just so happens that 56.5÷1.25=45.2.

My guess is you'll do better looking at HO valve gear. I'm looking at a Tyco Chattanooga Choo Choo as I write this. It looks like it's gear might fit.

Well, I finally had two minutes to rub together over Thanksgiving, so I finished the model!

I did pick up some Walther's Solvaset. That stuff is magic! It made these 25-year-old decals affix like new. No bubbles or silvering.

I'm mostly happy with how it turned out. I tried to paint the inset panels on the cab orange, as they are on the prototype, but it just didn't look good. So, I reverted to an all-red cab like the Marsh. And I refuse to put the "Tomy" flags on it: even on the real engine, it makes the locomotive look like a toy. I'll try to print some small American flags for it, or just go with solid green.

The only thing I wish I'd done is make the smokebox/stack darker. I tried to match the color of the prototype, but it should have more of the graphite look.

One project done! 8,956 to go.
