And now I know where your current avatar came from. Thanks for sharing all those pictures!

Yeah, I was wondering about that avatar! Very cool!

But in your first picture, the Gurley is pulling the wrong train. :p

Thanks for sharing the photos.

The Hot Lead & Cold Feet contraption on Big Thunder Trail is far from a donkey, which would be used from a stationary point to pull logs (usually uphill) in place of having draft animals do the job. But it's a neat prop that sure stands out at the quietest part of the park.

My question is, how many of these were made? There's one at the WDW attraction, and I believe there's a second at Disneyland actually on the ride itself.

Ed, the second one is in the middle of the queue line. The queue kinda loops around it.

You can almost see the one at WDW in this picture. Almost. This is just before the trains go back into the loading station.

Interestingly, I would never have come up with the term "steam donkey" on my own to describe these little engines. I would have guessed that I ran across it when studying for the Disney Store trivia contest. However, I went back and looked at some of the books that might have mentioned it and I couldn't find it referred to as that anywhere. Thanks for correcting my usage.

As mentioned above, there are two on display at Disneyland -- one on the trail, shown in my picture, and one in the queue area. Steve's got one pictured from Walt Disney World. Is that a replica? I seem to recall two used in Hot Lead and Cold Feet. Perhaps this was a spare of some sort? I'm not sure.

And, Chris, it is actually the blue train set being pulled by the Gurley in the first picture, not green. A little tough to see with all of the shadows.

And this is an even more complete view of the graphic where I got my avatar from.

Image

Pullman, I believe, has posted some of the railroad graphics from this exhibit. It is a pretty low-light situation and I didn't have my tripod so I'll need to reshoot some of the pictures from there but this gives you an idea of some of what is displayed. I believe in the display case featuring park tickets through the years that they've included some original Disneyland Railroad tickets.

Thanks, Matt.

That graphic looks to be concept art for the brochures Disney created along with the AT&SF, advertising both the real Santa Fe and Disneyland---cross-marketing at its best. I wish they would have produced the brochures to look like the concept!
