By popular request (well, at least the request of No. 4 Fan :) ) we follow up last week's pictures of Adventureland with pictures of one of the main Adventureland attractions, The Jungle Cruise. Eleven brand new pictures! And since all the pictures on the page are new, I won't bother indexing them all here.

I'm no Jungle Cruise skipper, so I'll leave the jokes to the professionals! :D

Enjoy!

And the same day I post Jungle Cruise pictures, the following news item turns up on the Internet Movie Database. Coincidence? I don't think so!

Quote:
The Walt Disney Co. is planning to turn another one of its theme-park rides into a movie. Today's (Thursday) Hollywood Reporter reported that Disney Pictures is developing a film version of Jungle Cruise, one of Disneyland's original "E-ticket" rides. The studio has had mixed results in turning its Magic Kingdom rides into magic at the box office. Although Pirates of the Caribbean has produced the biggest grosses in the studio's history, the 2004 movie The Haunted Mansion was generally regarded as a disappointment. The $90-million movie earned less than $25 million in its debut and wound up with about $75 million domestically, while Disney's Country Bears bombed in 2002 with just $17 million.

So the Pirates of the Caribbean ride inspires the movie which later inspires the ride,

Now the orignal Jungle Cruise movie (African Queen) inspired the ride which is now inspiring the new movie.

Great pics, Steve! You know, in photos, if you didn't know better, some of those look real. As far as the movie news, I've been hearing rumblings about that for quite some time. Guess they're getting closer to production. My level of excitement about it will be easy to measure once casting is complete. If the cast is all adults, they might do alright, but if there are child actors on the cast list, it's poison. "Country Bears" aimed at kids, blew chunks. "Haunted Mansion" aimed at kids, that movie was pooooo!!!! "Pirates Of The Caribbean" aimed at a slightly older, action-oriented audience, and we see how that went. I'm glad "Mansion" didn't do all that well, since we might have Eddie Murphy and those annoying kids hangin' out in our attractions. Someone asked imagineer Jason Surrell at one of the Happy Haunts Ball events to address the rumor that Jennifer Tilly was supposed to replace Leota Toombs/Eleanor Audley in the seance room. He said she told that to someone interviewing her, and the source of that rumor was...Jennifer Tilly. There were never any such plans and it was news to them when they heard about that.

When we were on the Jungle Cruise last Friday (9/29), there was
a clothes line across the "Uprising" scene and the Rhino's horn
was through one of the shirts (I think) hanging on the line.

I was so surprised that I didn't get a picture!

Is this the Skipper's version of a Hidden Mickey?

Jungle animals are changed out frequently, and sometimes sets get freshened up a bit. I was a bit surprised to see that myself the first time I came around the rocks after that scene had been altered. When you only work a couple of days a week, you aren't always informed of things like that. I WAS aware when they replaced the first squirting elephant, as the new one squirts about twice as far and powerfully as the old one, and if you aren't anticipating it, you'll end up with some wet folks on your boat! As far as hidden Mickeys, our "official" one is on the crashed plane, beneath the window, there are three riveted circles that form a Mickey. There's also a hidden Minnie in the temple. Just before exiting (after you pass the golden statues) on the left, the rocks are carved out in the shape of a Minnie profile, somewhat this shape:

It's not easy to see, but if you catch it lit properly, it is indeed Minnie.

Well, Steve, I think you know what you need to put up photos of next...heheheh.

There are 15 boats in operation at the Florida Jungle Outpost,

Amazon Annie
Bomokandi Bertha
Congo Connie
Ganges Gertie
Irrawaddy Irma
Mongala Millie
Nile Nelly
Orinoco Ida
Rutshuru Ruby
Sankuru Sadie
Senegal Sal
Ucyali Lolly
Volta Val
Wamba Wanda
Zambesi Zelda

The 16th boat name "Kwango Kate" was retired when the current brown boats replaced the original striped canopy boats. Her nameplate however has been known to reappear every so often atop another boat in the fleet generally as a prank among the old-school jungle crew. The looks on the faces of the new kids... priceless. (not that I know that for a fact or that I condone this type of behavior...... )

Wow, fifteen boats seems like a big fleet. What is the maximum number of boats that can operate on the river at a time?
